Menicon’s founder, Kyoichi Tanaka, was a true pioneer of specialty lenses as he developed the first corneal contact lens in Japan in 1951. Now, 70 years later, we have five major categories of specialty contact lenses that cover the variety of visual needs a wearer may have. 

RGP lenses 

RGP lenses are a great option to correct vision for many people. The lenses retain their shape to ensure optimal, consistent vision. At Menicon we offer a wide variety of RGP lenses. The differences can be found in the design, the materials used and the range of parameters available. With our extensive specialty lens portfolio, we can create a contact lens for almost everyone.

Orthokeratology lenses (Ortho-K lenses)

Orthokeratology, or ortho-K, is a treatment that uses specially designed RGP contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea to reduce refractive errors. This is an excellent option for anyone with an active lifestyle, problems with dry eyes, or allergies. Lenses are worn during the night, while you sleep. When you wake up, you can see clearly without the need for contact lenses or glasses during the day. 

Contact lenses for irregular corneas

People with irregular corneas are usually not able to wear regular contact lenses. This is why we have specialized in creating contact lenses for non-standard eyes. With ROSE K we have six lens designs that allow us to fit all corneal shapes. And the best thing: one simple systematic approach to fitting all these designs. ROSE K lenses are manufactured in 18 countries, distributed in over 88 countries and have become the most frequently prescribed brand for the irregular cornea in the world.

 
Myopia control with Menicon Bloom™

Myopia is recognized as a growing problem worldwide with about 50% of the world’s population projected to be myopic by 2050. At Menicon, we created a brand new holistic myopia management system to help slow the progression of myopia. We do this by slowing the growth of the eye with the help of specially designed contact lenses: Menicon Bloom Night (ortho-k lenses) and Menicon Bloom Day (soft daily disposable). The treatment is more than just the contact lenses, the system also involves novel tools that enhance the experience for the patient and eye care practitioner through our new Menicon Bloom Easyfit software and Menicon Bloom App.
